Jamie Rocha Gomes
Lecture title: Development on dyeing and printing with dyes in nanoparticles
Jaime I. Naylor Rocha Gomes holds a Textile Chemistry degree, and a Ph.D. (1982) from Leeds University, Textiles and Colour Chemistry Departments respectively, and is at present a full Professor at University of Minho, in Textile Chemistry, where he started in 1976. He is also CEO to Ecofoot, a spin-off company of the University, founded in 2012 and dedicated to development of sustainable dyes and dyeing auxiliaries. He was founder and CEO of Micropolis in 2003, another spin-off company that developed reactive Microcapsules of PCM, now part of a large European company producer of textile functional products (2007).
In the last 25 years he has collaborated in projects with the textile industry, both in dyeing and finishing. Research and collaboration with industry also covers antimicrobial and insect repellents. At the University since 1976, he has published more than 30 papers in international peer reviewed journals and 70 papers in international conferences, and is the main inventor of 5 national patents on different areas of finishing, and 1 international (PCT) patent on reactive microcapsules, including microcapsules of PCM, granted in 5 countries. He won a national prize for Innovation in 2011, the BES Grand Innovation Prize, for the invention and development of sustainable dyes in silica nanoparticles.
Janak Mehta
Lecture title: Global Scenario of Textile Dyestuffs
Mr. Janak Mehta is the President of The Dyestuffs Manufacturers Association of India (DMAI) since 2012. He was also the President for three consecutive terms for the years from 2006-2007 to 2008-2009. He was earlier a member of the Managing Committee of DMAI and also held various positions as Hon. Secretary, 2nd Vice President and 1st Vice President.
Mr. Mehta graduated in science in 1984 and secured his MBA Degree from the prestigious Jamnalal Bajaj Institute of Management Studies in Mumbai. He is the Managing Partner of Dyetex Corporation, a firm engaged in the business of dyestuffs, pigments and intermediates.
Mr. Mehta is a member of the Executive Committee of Indian Chemical Council (ICC). Also, he was nominated as a Member of the Task Force on Chemicals set up by the Govt. of India, Dept. of Chemicals & Petrochemicals, Ministry of Chemicals & Fertilizers since 2003. He was one of the initiators of Convention on Colorants being organized biennially by DMAI jointly with Institute of Chemical Technology, Mumbai since 2005 and was Co-Chairman and Chairman of the event. Mr. Mehta was also the Chairman of the Conference on Contribution of Colorants to Indian Economic Growth organized by DMAI jointly with FICCI in March 2008 and also was the Ambassador of the Conference on Colorants Unlimited – A Confluence of Makers & Users organized by DMAI jointly with SDC and supported by the Ministry of Chemicals & Fertilizers, GOI in February 2010.
Mr. Mehta successfully led a delegation to China Interdye 2005 from DMAI. He made elaborate and relevant presentations at International forums in China and Europe. He was also instrumental in successfully organizing Interdye Asia 2011 Conference and Exhibition in Ahmedabad in December 2011.
Mr. Mehta was also the Chairman of Conference on Textile: Business and Environment Sustainability – Challenges for the Colorants Industry held in November 2013 at Coimbatore and in February 2016 at Ludhiana, India.
Fanny Vermandel
Lecture title: DyStar’s contribution to innovation & BAT for the Textile Industry
Fanny Vermandel is Vice President of the DyStar® Group, solution provider that offers a complete range of colorants, auxiliaries and services across the globe.
DyStar’s service division assists Brands & Retailers and their Industry Partners from their first inspiration throughout the entire supply chain to ensure that they meet stringent quality and ecological specifications, reduce costs and shorten lead times. The service division offers state of the art color communication through CSI, textile and ecology testing through Texanlab, ecology and environmental advice, supply chain auditing and consulting for RSL compliant sustainable processes through Sustainable Textile Solutions programs.
She is masters graduate in textile engineering from the Technical University Gent (CTL), Belgium. Over her 30 year long career, in Bayer and DyStar Group, she has held several roles in different locations from Belgium to Germany, as well as in China and Singapore.
Her further responsibilities at DyStar include the Marketing Coloration portfolio’s. She is still acting as Global Product Manager for Disperse Dyes.
Lutz Walter
Lecture title: Can the European Textile Innovation Ecosystem Successfully Meet the Challenges of Rapidly Evolving Global Markets?
Lutz Walter is Head of the R&D, Innovation and Projects Department of Euratex, the European Apparel and Textile Confederation based in Brussels. He is a university degree holder in business management and political science and has been working in European Affairs since 1998. Since he joined Euratex in 1999, he has been coordinator of various European collaborative research and networking projects.
His further responsibilities at Euratex include the monitoring of EU research policies and programmes, which are of interest for the textile/clothing sector as well as the development of strategies and position papers on the future of textile and clothing research and innovation in Europe.
Since 2004 he has been coordinating the European Technology Platform for the Future of Textiles and Clothing, the largest European textile research and innovation experts network. In 2013 the European Technology Platform became an independent legal entity and Lutz Walter was appointed its Secretary General.
